Laura F.

Name: Laura F.
State: North Carolina
Job Title: Step Down, Telemetry RN

Once upon a time, a nurse went on vacation in Montana.  It was the most memorable vacation of her life.  She longed to go back, but a week just wasn't going to be long enough.  Having pondered over how to spend time in this glorious place, she returned as a Traveling Nurse.  This fairy tale is actually reality for Laura F., who specializes in Step Down and Telemetry Nursing.  Laura started traveling in 2006 and with the exception of one assignment, she's been with Cirrus the entire time.  Laura states that she did a lot of research when she decided to become a Traveler and chose a couple of companies to go with based on what was important to her.  That would be housing, the tax advantage plan administered properly and most importantly...honesty.  She waited weeks for those "perfect jobs" the companies had told her about with no word.  Finally, a traveler who she worked with told her to phone Jeff DeHart of Cirrus.  "In less than two weeks, Jeff had a position exactly where I wanted to go", according to Laura.  She stayed in a beautiful new condo on a quiet little canal and remembers it as if it were yesterday because it was just perfect.  She states that Jeff and Cirrus keep doing it for her over and over again.  Her recruiter took the time to get to know her and what was important to her.  The most important factor in her relationship with her recruiter is TRUST.  Laura states, "I know that my recruiter will get me the best assignment in the area as close to what I want with the best wages and housing possible.  He also is supportive of me when I need him to be.  You can't ask for better than that."

Laura has traveled to Hawaii, Florida, North Carolina and Montana.  Montana is her favorite assignment because the mountains are absolutely gorgeous and the views are spectacular from wherever you are.  Laura says that "walking out of the hospital from my shift and seeing those mountains is an amazing sight."  When not mountain gazing, she spends her time hiking and she's recently learned to country dance while on an assignment.   Laura has been a nurse for 21 years.  She "connects" herself to the areas she travels to by attending classes, church, and just talking to the locals about the area.  One of the things she likes most about being a Traveler is sharing her experiences with her family and friends, making new friends and loves it when family or friends visit her while on assignment.  Her philosophy as a Travel Nurse:  "I try to leave every place I go a little better by having done my best regardless if it's where I work, where I live, my patients, the staff and people I come in contact with on each assignment."  Laura's advice she offers to other Travelers is to remember that you're there to help and help is much better received when it's given with a smile.  This is Laura F., world, and now you know why she makes all of us at Cirrus smile!
