Katherine, from Thornton Colorado has been a RN for over 20 years. I started in Oncology for six months but unfortunately it was not for me, then I switched to Labor and delivery which was more suitable for me. (It’s like I went from one end to the other). I decided to travel because I raised my three children- Chris, 26, Matt, 24 and my baby Valerie is 21. When Valerie went to college in Georgia in 07’ I wanted to be close to her so I took my first travel assignment. So far I’ve been on a total of 4 different assignments: Lincoln Memorial & Wake Med in North Carolina, Dauterive, LA and now Owatonna Hospital in Minnesota. Labor and Delivery has been my career for the past 19 years. I love the environment because it’s really exciting.
Katherine likes to explore different places on her days off. My daughter Valerie is my co-pilot. We like to take the back roads and site see. The scenery is breathtaking. So far we have driven through the whole state of North Carolina, the Appalachian Mountains are beautiful and it was hard for me to keep my eyes on the road! We drove through the back roads in Colorado and Texas. While on assignment in Louisiana we toured Bourbon Street. Minnesota has the most beautiful farm land but when we went to the Mall of Americas that was an experience and a work-out in one. I was intimidated when I saw that huge mall. It has 4 stories, 3 levels on each story and it’s 4.2 million square feet. There is also an amusement park “in the mall”. Another thing that is funny with me being a Traveler is, I have a different discount scanner on my keychain for every supermarket I’ve been to. I must have 10 different discount scanners.
We asked Katherine how she heard about Cirrus. Well my recruiter Mo found me. He was new to the company and I was the first nurse he placed. It was a new experience for both of us. Mo has a great personality and we clicked. Being that Mo was not new to the business, he understood my needs and worked really hard to find the right assignment for me. When Mo found the Louisiana assignment for me, there were a few problems with obtaining my license. The facility requested my transcript info and I graduated a lonnng time ago. Mo was down to the wire and got the correct paperwork to the facility immediately and for that reason I want people to know that Mo is a Rockstar. I also can’t leave out that he puts up with some of my fussing and he even sent me cookies once.
We asked Katherine does season influence her choice for traveling destination, No I am pretty much open but I don’t mind being away from Colorado for a few months out of the year. The next place I would like my travel assignment to be is California. My daughter will go back to school then. One thing that Traveling has taught me is to have an open mind and to go with the flow. I worked at the same facility for years and I became very set in my ways. I’m glad that I made a change in with my life because it’s been a wonderful experience- Meeting different people and learning about our regional differences is really rewarding. I would like to especially thank the staff at Cirrus because they are GREAT! In the two years I have traveled I’ve had no problems on my assignments or with my pay. It’s a great company to work for!
